Fair wins!!

If you are on my facebook list then you've already seen these ribbons, I am so proud of myself and never did I ever expect this type of response when I entered my blankets in the county fair.

I picked 3 of my favorite blankets (had to get the lighthouse back from my mom)

This first one is made with the granny squares from Nadia's granny square a day for 2016.
I received a third place ribbon in the category.

I also entered my Christmas graph-gahn from Repeatcrafterme.com
As you can see I recieved a blue ribbon AND 3rd over all in class.

And last not least and best of all!!!!!
My lighthouse blanket from c2cgraphs.com got me a blue ribbon, the first in class AND the Fair goers choice ribbons!!
I didn't know that the fair goers could vote on items so it's a huge honor that so many people loved my blanket (mom's blanket, it's back in her possession now)

Now, to find a shadow box to display these in and I'm already working on next year's submissions.

Teal granny square blanket

I finished another blanket from my list.  I love these colors!
I still have a lot of granny squares to make from the granny square a day of 2016, but I'm working on getting the ones sewn together that are already made before I move on.
I made mostly the floral motif squares for this color scheme.

Another granny square blanket done!

So, did you see my post last week about the resolution I made to finish the projects I've started over the past year and not finished?

Well, here's another granny square blanket from the granny square a day in 2016 that I still have quite a few squares I need to make.

I love this color combination, it's so rich and beautiful.
Very classy I think.
This was like the yellow and green one, I had the appropriate number of squares made, I just had to finish sewing them together and add the border.

Here's a couple of close up shots so you can see that each square is different.

This is my first time doing something different for the border, I did each color, starting with the burgundy.  When I got to the white I did a chain space between the double crochet and skipping a stitch.  Then I went back to the burgundy and did a single crochet in each double crochet and a treble crochet in the skipped stitch from the light grey.
I love the look, I think it matches the blanket really well.

I also made a pillow to match.  This square turned out so huge, I thought it would be neat to have a pillow.

Here's that list I was talking about, now I've got 2 projects crossed off, it feels really good!!

Granny square blanket

I'm not one to make New Year's Resolutions but this year I thought of one that I can follow...I hope
I am majorly A.D.D. when it comes to crafting and even more so when it comes to crocheting.

I was talking to my  mom and sister about how many projects I have in progress, so when I got home I decided to pull them all out and make a list of what I needed to finish.
Here is my list...
it's a little embarrassing to admit how scattered I can be.  This doesn't include the 80 or more squares I still have to catch up on from Yarn utopia's granny square a day challenge from last year.

Which brings me to my first project I crossed off my list! woohoo!!
I had most of the squares already stitched together so it was quick to finish.

Here are a few close ups so you can see how cool the squares are, each one is different.

This is the 3rd blanket I've finished using the squares I've made so far, I've still got a drawer full of random ones I made before I got smart and started using a color scheme.

After I posted the photo of my messy bun hat or pony tail hat, I was asked to make one for one of the kids in my daughter's home school group.
She's a pretty cool kid and totally rocks the messy bun,  The first time I saw her with her hair down I didn't recognize her! Seriously, this kid has amazing hair!
So, I pulled out  my super cool Panther Pink yarn that I bought with no clue as to why (God knew I'd need it)

I hope she likes it and I can't wait to see it on her!

And no, this was not on  my list but since I finished one project on this list I allowed myself to start a new one that I knew I'd finish before putting it down.
So, see, I didn't break my resolution...yet

Little Tree and Kitty

I found this cute pattern on Ravelry and knew Emily would love it.  She pretends to be a cat a lot and still has her tail and ears head band from Halloween 2 years ago and wears them often.

I used the sizing for the child and had to add about 6 inches to the length of the scarf and added almost that much to the hood.  Thankfully the addition to the hood made it look a little ruffly so it's cuter.

I made this cute tree following the video Yarnutopia posted on You tube.
She used a real stick for her tree trunk, but I crocheted one because this tree is going in an ornament exchange with the kids in our home school group.
Since I don't know who will get it I figure no real sticks is good.

Crochet Granny square catch up

I got so far behind on my Granny Square a day with Nadia, I had to buckle down and catch up!
I have just been grabbing random yarn colors or using similar colors to what Nadia used on her sample and I realized I wasn't getting anything that would match well enough to make into a blanket.  I also was keeping them in daily order, I don't know why, just my OCD I guess.
But as you can see, They are really random, which drove me crazy when I realized what I had done.  So I pulled out all of my yarn and decided on 2 different color schemes moving forward.

I really like the yellow and green together, reminds me of Daffodils.
And the 2 purples, green and tan are gorgeous!
I also decided to use the yellow and green scheme for more linear or geometric looking squares and the purples, green and tan for more floral looking squares. I love how it's turning out now.
They will be gorgeous blankets when I get enough made.
I also sorted the other squares into like color groups and am really trying to not let myself go back and remake some, lol, it's driving me nuts, seriously.  My brain is not handling the chaos well.

Anyway, moving on, lol, I've been having so much fun and I have learned so much from Nadia I felt comfortable enough to start reading patterns.  The unicorn was super cool.  My sister had requested a giraffe for a baby shower gift but I didn't have a pattern, well, this one showed up in an email so I thought I'd try him.  He's super cute!!

He was a challenge too, he's pretty small, about 12 inches tall.  He's not perfect by any means, but I think he's pretty darn cute!

Granny square a day for 365 days

I recently came across Nadia of Yarnutopia on You Tube while searching for crochet tutorials.
She's posting a new video every day this year of a new granny square.  I decided to try to  follow along with her to learn some new stitches and get better at crocheting.

I'm a little behind but I'm determined to get caught up.

Here is a link to her channel, she does great tutorials and is very easy to follow.
